Foot Condition

BUNIONS

Also known as Hallux Valgus, a bunion is described as bump that is found on the inner foot near the big toe.  The bumpy bone is caused by changes in bone structure where big toe leans towards second toe instead of being straight ahead.

Causes

Bunions can be passed down from parents to children, which suggest that the shape and action of the foot may cause this condition.  Also, not wearing proper shoes while standing, walking, and participating in athletics the integrity of the feet may be compromised and pressure can build throughout the foot creating the bump.

Symptoms

  • Throbbing pain
  • Soreness
  • Inflammation and redness
  • Extreme sensitivity by the bump

Treatment options:

Bunions it can be treated by conservative treatment or surgical options.

Conservative treatment can be simple as changing shoes, padding at bunion site, changing activity, injection or orthotics device.

Surgery is recommended when a bunion interferes with your daily activities.  There are several surgical options available to correct the bunion.  Please consult a Podiatrist.
